Take the Challenge

We would like to invite you to join us as we work to get back in shape. It happen so fast, life takes over, and before you know it, you are out of shape. Brian and I both took part of the adult fitness test and will finish up this week. We were tested in 4 area's: Aerobic fitness (choose a mile walk or a 1.5 mile run) Muscular strength (half sit-ups and push-ups, on knees for the girls) Flexibility, and body composition (calculated with your height, weight, and girth measurements). Upon completion, you enter your numbers online and receive your score. The challenge is to improve on some or all area's. To make things more interesting, the one of us that improves the most will be awarded an mp3 player. Aside from abdominal strength (95th percentile!) my scores weren't so hot. 45 percent for push-ups and flexibility, and (gasp) 20 percent for aerobic. My BMI is officially in the overweight range. So I have some things to work on.

Benefits of Exercise:
  • improves mood
  • combats chronic diseases (heart disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, high blood pressure)\
  • weight management
  • strengthens heart and lungs - you have more energy
  • improved sleep
  • can put a spark in your sex life... i'm not explaining this one.
  • exercise can be (gasp) fun!

Everyone enjoys different things. Try several things to see what you will stick with. Take a class at a gym. Find a workout buddy... hike the stairs on your lunch break. Libraries have tons of work out tapes Yoga, walking, jump rope, pilates etc. Find one you like and buy it.

If you decide to take the challenge, we love to hear from you! Let us know you're doing it with us, and maybe send us your success when we post ours! Get your spouse or a buddy to do it with you! Good Luck! We'll retest in six weeks! http://adultfitnesstest.org/ You can also log your points and earn bronze, silver and gold presidential medal.... and a president signed certificate - http://presidentschallenge.org/.

'til next post

Oh my...makes me scared even to think of my numbers right now...perhaps in a few months...I'll be needing it then for sure! =) Good luck! Based on observation, I believe active baby boy would score very well at this point!

My cardiologist wants me to walk one half hour a day. He says it will help bring my blood pressure down. I am trying to do this. That is about my limit for now. MOM
