Oh, what glorious Autumn weather we are enjoying. This weekend we headed out to our local Ohme Gardens to explore and celebrate a friends 13th birthday. The Garden was a cool refuge on a hot day, an entire hillside of cool slate paths, ponds, and waterfalls - not to mention 5,000,000,000 stone steps. :-) There were also many rock benches and tables along the way. The Garden was first started by Herman and Ruth Ohme in 1929 as a refuge from the dry desert sagebrush and heat. To water the evergreens they had transplanted from the Cascades they had to hand carry 5 gallon buckets of water from the river valley below! They also carried in all the rock. (Brian agreed that this was a much bigger project than our measly rock wall in which rock was delivered to us.) On our visit a stretch Humvee was awaiting a wedding party, and the driver let the kids look around and take their photos. I would definitely want to see this garden in the spring.
